Surveillance Camera Guide

Protecting your property is a full time job some days. Whether it be a family owned business location or just your own back yard, security is an issue most people take very seriously. Family safety and well being is the most important thing to you as their protector. Installing a surveillance camera around your home or business is one step in the right direction.

Choosing the right camera and security set up is a daunting task. There are many models and styles out on the market. Finding one that fits your needs will take some work. An Internet search or a brief chat with a professional security consultant gets you well on your way to make an informed decision.

Picking a surveillance camera that fits your needs will depend largely on where you plan to mount it, how much area you want to cover and recording or monitoring capabilities. If you have a business property and need to watch your parking lot, then choosing a weather proof camera narrows your choices somewhat.

Indoor cameras are more in abundance as far as selection. Without the need for them to withstand climate changes, you can select from a wide range of models. With box and dome camera styles available, you can easily cover inside your business or home with complete video surveillance.

While most surveillance cameras are of the hard wired variety, there are more than a few wireless models out there to choose from. This eliminates the need to run wires, drill through walls and hide unsightly wire bundles from view. These will work with a transmitter and receiver set up that sends the video signal directly to your recording device and monitor.

Pricing for most of these cameras start at around $70.00 for the black and white ones and $150.00 for the color models, these go as high as $600.00 to $700.00 each. The monitors start at $200.00 and go up from there. The recording devices can be just a standard VCR or DVR, and some models have a built in storage device such as a memory stick which can be downloaded directly to a computer.
