Night Vision Camera Guide

While many security cameras work their best during the day, very few standard ones have any capability in low light or night time. Since this is when most issues occur, a night vision camera added to your security set up may be in order. With models ranging from hand held to mounted wireless video feed, the right one is out there.

For parking lot surveillance, even with the lights on there are always dark spots, points in the lot where the illumination is not adequate. Night vision technology allows you to see these spots as though it were midday. Using the available light from the surrounding area, these cameras amplify it and turn the dullest spot bright.

Night vision cameras range come in very compact hand held models that allow you to hold it or even wear it clipped to a pocket or belt, recording the whole time for viewing later. This is especially effective for a security guard on walking patrol. Lightweight with replaceable or rechargeable batteries, this unit is always ready.

There is a flashlight style one that not only has a built in DVR and can record in total darkness, the flashlight portion is functional too. With a number of hand held models to choose from, finding one to fit your needs should be a snap. Pricing for these sizes starts at $150.00 and up.

Need something more stable? There are table top wired night vision cameras that are motion activated, wall mounted cameras with protective covers for outdoor use and ones that are completely self contained with removable memory sticks that can record up to weeks of surveillance. Depending on your application, there is one for you out there.

Many of the motion activated ones also double as a standard surveillance camera and when the light drops below a certain level, the night vision is started. Some of the models also have infra-red capability, and can film not only at night, but also capture heat signatures. With this added piece of equipment in your security arsenal, no time of day or night escapes your watchful eye.
